Where to Place Your Router for The Best Netgear Wi-Fi Router Signal Strength?
That moment when you are watching
your favorite series online and it stops suddenly when the connection drops
unexpectedly. How does it feel? One of the worst feelings of the world, right?
Poor network signal can leave you waiting longer for pages to load or you dear
series to buffer. Our Netgear
Tech Support experts share few tips that can help
your Wi-Fi router send strong signal all over your home and apartment.
- Place it centrally - The wires you plug into the router are typically stationed in the corner of the room. But it makes more sense to place it at a more central spot. The ideal position is to place within your sight/reach. The walls and other obstacles absorb more signal energy hence you should avoid any hindrance where your router is placed.
- Avoid metal around it - Metal dissipates electromagnetic energy quite efficiently. Therefore, it is healthy for your router to stay away from any and every metal object.
- Set it up high - Placing the Netgear router to a wall or setting it on a high shelf can give you a better signal, especially if you live in a two-story house and want a good connection on both floors. Wondering why? WIFI routers emit radio waves, which spread out and down from their source.
- Avoid keeping near microwave - Microwaves operate around the same frequency as wireless routers, and even the tiny bit of radiation that escapes the microwave can disrupt your signal. Thus, avoid keeping your router near microwave.
- A strict NO to concrete or brick walls - Enclosing the router with concrete or brick on a couple sides won't help your signal reach the furthest corners of your home. Additionally, floors and ceilings tend to be more transmissive than walls, Cole noted.
- Do not place it at a crowded place - Water obstructs Wi-Fi signals. Up to 60% of the human adult body is water, so its natural you’ll not get high speed internet connection at crowded places.
- Place the antenna upward and sideways for good horizontal and vertical reach - For routers with two antennas, Netgear tech support technicians recommend point one antenna up and the other to the side. For routers with no antenna, make sure you stand it the way it's made to go.
